Day 2 West to Mile 0, The Official Starting Point, and back to Vancouver

Canadians take recycling seriously. These 5 bin stations are everywhere. Most packaging of foods is of paper rather than styrafoam. In Vancouver a 1 use cup in a restaurant costs an additional 25 cents, so customers bring their own mugs for the restaurant to fill, avoiding the extra charge.

Hostel where we stayed overnight in Victoria. 3 bunks to a room, coed style. suites.  Not so sweet, but serviceable. Met many backpackers from around the world in the morning getting ready to trek on trails on Vancouver Island.

Cyclists at 7:30 am preparing to ride to Mile 0 on the Pacific.

Cyclists at the land sign commemorating Mile 0. 16 out of 21 cyclists in the tour chose an option to participate in the Mile 0 excursion from Vancouver to Victoria, the capital of British Columbia.

The "Official" Start:  Jim dipping the rear tire in the Pacific at the "beach" at Mile 0. The rocks on the beach remind me of Brighton Beach, UK where Merry Ann and I visited while on an 4 1/2 year Air Force assignment stationed in London in the later 1980s.

After participating in Mile 0, riders reversed course and rode, ferried, and shuttled under the river back to UBC in Vancouver.
